Swimming at WBJS
At West Byfleet Junior School ,We are fortunate that we are able to secure lessons at Guildford Spectrum ,who also have excellent resources for all levels of swimming.
Lessons
Each year group will receive 30 minute lesson ,every week for 10 weekson a Wednesday Afternoon .In addition, we also provide 'Booster lessons 'for Year 6 children that have not achieved the National Curriculum requirement.These will take place on a Tuesday morning .
National Curriculum:
All Primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key stage 1 or 2.
Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively,for example, front crawl, backstroke and breast stroke
For children who have reached the National Curriculum requirements, we enrich there achievements with additional skills with the advance stages of Swim England program, diving skills, Bronze Rookie Life Guard skills and also invited to take part in WBJS's School swimming competitions.
