Year 6 Heart Dissection
Today, the children in Windermere, Aviemore and Snowdon classes had an exciting science lesson that they won’t forget! As part of our topic on the circulatory system, Year 6 had the opportunity to dissect real hearts and explore how they work.
The children were fascinated to see the different parts of the heart up close. They identified the four chambers – the left and right atria and ventricles – and found the blood vessels that take blood in and out of the heart.
They carefully observed the walls of the heart’s ventricles to find out which one had the thickest muscle. They discovered that the left ventricle was the strongest as it has to pump blood all around the body.
Everyone showed great curiosity, care and teamwork during the activity. It was a brilliant way to bring our learning to life and really helped the children understand how amazing our hearts are!
