French

 French Vision

To nurture and encourage a love of French is one of the valued areas of learning here at West Byfleet Junior School. Our French curriculum aims to provide all pupils with a high quality of the teaching of French through the Language Angels scheme.

All children have a half hour weekly lesson with additional resources to compliment the recently purchased scheme and support teachers. We aspire to develop a genuine interest in learning a foreign language and also introduce an introduction to Italian and Spanish. Children have the opportunity to develop their French language skills as well as learn about French culture and traditions.

A structured approach to learning French through the scheme ensures the children can build and consolidate their language skills and use these when new topics are introduced.

 French Leader: Debs Mallinson

Travelling to France on holiday numerous times as a young girl and being very fortunate to learn so much about the country from a young age definitely inspired my love for teaching children all about France, its culture and the wonderful French language. I studied French at A Level and went on to take a BA (Hons) degree with QTS course in French with teaching studies at university. This included a year in Angers during which I taught in French primary schools and attended a college with other French students training to become primary teachers. This experience helped my French to become more fluent and even more determined to share my passion for the language with children.

I was a children’s courier during the Summer holidays at French campsites where I was part of an enthusiastic team who provided fun and inclusive activity sessions for children aged from four to twelve. I have run successful French clubs in the schools in which I have taught and organised links with other schools in France, which have enabled children to form pen-pal friendships.

I feel incredibly honoured to be leading French at West Byfleet Junior School. I have always been passionate about languages and French in particular. It has always been a great pleasure and joy for me to learn such a beautiful, rich and melodious language, which I am now very fortunate to be able to teach myself to the pupils at this school.
